Retirement Could Still Reportedly Be An Option For 1 NFL QB

The Los Angeles Rams were stuck for years because of poor QB play.

It didn’t take long before Matthew Stafford proved to be just what they needed, finally being able to get them over the hump and winning the Super Bowl in his very first season at So-Fi Stadium.

Stafford’s importance was even more evident last season.

He struggled with injuries for most of the year, and his diminished play — along with other factors — doomed the Rams to a season to forget.

There were rumors about the former first-overall pick calling it quits after last season, but that narrative was put to sleep when Sean McVay announced that he was coming back.

Now, however, it seems like retirement could still be a possibility for Stafford, according to NBC’s Matthew Berry.

Berry reports that Stafford could barely throw at all last season, adding that we shouldn’t rule out the possibility of him walking away from the game.

Should that be the case, then it’s a strong possibility that the Rams decide to resign Baker Mayfield, who thrived in Los Angeles in the final stretch of the season.

The Rams are facing some key questions in the offseason.

They’re likely to move on from star CB Jalen Ramsey, and they don’t have a lot of draft capital to make up for their losses and reinforce their team.

All things considered, it seems like their days as an NFC powerhouse could be over, especially if their QB1 decides he’s taken enough of a beating throughout his career.
