Eric Bieniemy was recently added to the Washington Commanders coaching staff after spending ten years with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bieniemy will be the Commanders’ assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, a similar role that he had for the Chiefs organization.

This move was met with some scrutiny, especially from one former player that was a part of Bieniemy’s offense.

After this scrutiny arose, Patrick Mahomes made sure to defend Bieniemy, citing his own experience.

There should be no questions on how great of a man/coach Coach Bienemy is. His leadership has a direct impact on the player/person i am today! 10+ years learning under one of the greatest coaches of all time.. and i cannot wait for him to continue to prove doubters wrong! https://t.co/hyCo3Bly9E

Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl champion, two-time Super Bowl MVP, and two-time league MVP.

He is one of the most well-respected players in the league, and when he speaks, people tend to listen.

Bieniemy worked under Andy Reid during his tenure on the Chiefs, who is often seen as one of the NFL’s best coaches.

At least in Mahomes’ opinion, he could not speak more highly of Bieniemy, and the character and leadership qualities that he possesses.

Bieniemy is the only offensive coordinator that Mahomes has known.

Under his leadership, the Chiefs have consistently been one of the league’s best offenses, and have won seven-straight division titles.

While the Chiefs’ new offensive coordinator has not yet been named, the team might undergo a few changes next season.

As for Bieniemy, he will certainly have his work cut out for him in Washington.

He won’t have a superstar quarterback to work with, given that the Commanders will likely be starting Sam Howell in 2023.

Will Bieniemy be able to find similar success next season without Mahomes and Reid to support him?
