Derek Carr has been signed by the New Orleans Saints as their newest starting quarterback.
While this is great news for the Saints and Carr’s career moving forward, this will seemingly put a nail in the coffin for another member of the Saints.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Carr’s signing likely marks the end of Jameis Winston’s time in New Orleans.
With Derek Carr headed to New Orleans, Jameis Winston now becomes a likely salary-cap casualty. New Orleans could move on and save $4.4M against the salary cap, but it would take on $11.2M in dead money. A post-June 1 cut would save $12.8M, but no savings until then. pic.twitter.com/0BuVmN8LYY

If the Saints do move on from Winston, they will save over $4 million in cap space.
Currently, the Saints are $17 million over the salary cap, and cutting Winston is one of many steps that the team is likely to make in the coming weeks.
Assuming Winston is cut, he will be on the hunt for a new team.
During his three years in New Orleans, Winston started just ten games for the Saints, amassing a record of 6-4.
While Winston’s time is likely done in New Orleans, he could have appeal to another quarterback-needy team.
When the 2023 season starts, Winston will be 29 years old.
29 years old is often seen as an older age for a starting wide receiver, cornerback, or running back.
For quarterbacks, however, 29 is quite young.
Winston led the league in passing yards in 2019, throwing for 5,109 yards.
This was one of the most famous quarterback seasons in recent memories, as he threw for 33 touchdowns, but 30 interceptions.
In the last few seasons, Winston has experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows as well.
If a new team takes a chance on him, Winston, like Carr, could reignite his NFL career.
