NFL Insider Gives The Latest Update On Vikings’ Negotiations With Dalvin Tomlinson

The Minnesota Vikings have found themselves in a difficult situation with one of their star players.

Similar to many teams across the league, the off-season is a time for contract disputes to get taken care of, and the Vikings are working with one of their own to resolve a conflict.

Dalvin Tomlinson was one of the most impactful players on the Vikings’ defense last year.

An NFL insider recently provided an update on his contract situation.

Vikings DT Dalvin Tomlinson’s deal was set to void in recent days, which would have pushed $7.5M of dead money onto their 2023 cap. The team & Tomlinson agreed to move the void date to 3/15. This buys more time for a possible extension that avoids all $7.5M hitting the 2023 cap.

Tomlinson and the Vikings have decided that they have until March 15th to decide his fate within the organization.

Tomlinson spent the first four years of his career as a member of the New York Giants before signing a two-year contract with the Vikings in 2021.

If the team does re-sign Tomlinson, they can retain a player that has been invaluable to their organization for the last two years.

The Vikings’ defense struggled as a whole in the back half of the season, including their playoff game against the Giants.

While Tomlinson was a great piece, and they will likely try to retain him, there is much more work to do.

Last season, the Vikings’ defense surrendered the second-most points in the league.

The majority of the Vikings’ games were within one score.

While their offense was able to overcome the shortcomings of the defense, that cannot be a sustainable model in 2023 and beyond.

With any luck, the Vikings will be able to acquire a few additional pieces via free agency and the draft, vastly improving their defensive unit.
