NFL Insider Gives Latest Update On Packers Cap Space

The NFL offseason looks a bit different for every team in the league.

For some teams, it’s an opportunity to reset their roster, making many free-agent moves to build for the future.

For others, it’s a time to reset their coaching staff, establishing a new regime.

There is one commonality between all NFL teams, which is the dreaded salary cap.

During the offseason, each team needs to get under the salary cap to fall within the league’s guidelines.

The Green Bay Packers are no strangers to getting under the cap and recently made a few moves to help do so.

The Packers now have more than $6 million in cap space after restructuring the contracts of Jaire Alexander and Preston Smith over the weekend.

The Packers restructured contracts for Jaire Alexander and Preston Smith.

Alexander has been highly regarded as one of the league’s best cornerbacks, and Smith has continued to impress on the defensive line.

One of the main reasons that the Packers were over the cap was due to Aaron Rodgers’ massive contract.

At this point, Rodgers has not made a decision on what he is going to do heading into the 2023 season.

Regardless of his decision, the Packers needed to get under the salary cap, the reason that they restructured these deals.

Moving on from the quarterback carries its own financial issues given the structure of his contract.

The Packers’ next several weeks should provide to be interesting, now that Rodgers is out of his darkness retreat.
