The National Football League is as pass-happy as it’ll ever be.

The new rules and ways favor the passing game, and fans always want to see high-scoring matchups rather than old-school offenses.

That’s why the bell-cow running back figure is a bit of a dying breed in today’s football.

Of course, some teams still feed their RBs as early and often as possible, but it’s been a while since we saw a run-heavy team go the distance and win the Super Bowl.

Still, there are some superstars in the league at that position, and former star RB Marshawn Lynch recently named his top five: Najee Harris (Pittsburgh Steelers), Saquon Barkley (New York Giants), Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans), Josh Jacobs (Las Vegas Raiders), and Nick Chubb (Cleveland Browns).

Notably, two of those (Barkley and Jacobs) could become free agents and switch sides this season, proving how ruthless this business has become to running backs.

As for Henry and Chubb, they’ve established themselves as two of the most dominant forces in the league nowadays, breaking tackles and wreaking havoc out of the backfield.

Najee Harris showed glimpses of greatness in his rookie season and was a superstar in college, but he regressed a lot in his second year, ceding multiple snaps to Benny Snell Jr.

Still, he’s young enough to turn things around, so he better make the most of Beast Mode’s endorsement here.

Whatever the case, RBs have become somewhat expendable for GMs nowadays, but they’ll never stop being a major factor in the game, no matter how much it changes.
