Eric Bieniemy Makes A Strong Statement In Introductory Press Conference

The Washington Commanders hired the best guy to handle Offensive Coordinator duties going forward.

They needed someone who could make the most of those promising weapons they have, regardless of their subpar quarterback situation.

The Commanders also made him an assistant Head Coach, luring him to FedEx Field with a raise in both his salary and his position.

Needless to say, that prompted plenty of speculation about whether Ron Rivera is only a place-holder for him and if he’ll take over for coach Rivera at some point in the season.

Also, it’s not a secret that Bieniemy has aspirations of becoming a HC himself, so maybe he could leave soon to pursue that goal.

That’s why he didn’t hesitate to put those narratives at rest right away, making it clear during his introductory press conference that he’s only worried and focused on what’s happening right now:

Bieniemy is a bit of a radical opposite when it comes to Rivera.

The first is an offensive mastermind, while the latter has earned his stripes in this league thanks to his defensive prowess.

Still, coach Rivera was on the hot seat for the best part of last season, especially after a slow start to the year, so he may not have a long leash in 2023 if the team doesn’t look good early in the campaign again.

Should that be the case, then there’s no doubt that Bieniemy would be the likeliest — and most qualified — candidate to take over, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
