The New York Giants are in desperate need at the linebacker position.

Despite a successful season in 2022, the Giants have several open spots that they’ll need to fill in order to contend again in 2023.

Thankfully, there are a few free agents that could present as a great fit within the organization, including a member of the Los Angeles Chargers.

ESPN lists the Giants as the best possible FA fit for Drue Tranquill and they’re probably the odds on favorite for a team that can steal him from the Chargers.

Drue Tranquill has been named as the best fit for the Giants’ roster.

As the above indicates, Tranquill had an incredible 2022 season, amassing 5.5 sacks, 144 tackles, and four pass breakups.

While he would be sorely missed on the Chargers roster, the Giants have a more pressing need at the position.

Outside of rookie phenom Kayvon Thibodeaux, there aren’t any big names in the Giants’ linebacker room.

Adding Tranquill could be a big step in the right direction for the Giants.

As demonstrated during the 2022 season, the NFC East is no longer the bottom-feeder of the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off of a strong season, and the Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning NFC champions.

Will the Giants be able to reinvent their roster enough to compete in 2023?

The Eagles and the Cowboys aren’t getting any worse, leaving the Giants in the dust, unless they are able to make some key free-agent moves.

Fortunately for the Giants, they have the fourth-best cap situation in the league, with nearly $45 million available.

This puts them in a great position to sign some marquee free agents, including a player like Tranquill if they’re able to land him.
