Bears GM Comments On Their Plans With Justin Fields

The Chicago Bears and Justin Fields have been quite the conversation piece during the 2023 off-season.

Fields was the Bears’ first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, at 11th overall.

While Fields improved mightily in his second NFL season, many across the league have doubted his ability to succeed in the league in a long-term capacity.

Currently, the Bears hold the number one overall pick in this year’s draft.

Recently, Bears GM Ryan Poles made a few comments regarding their plans for the future.

#Bears GM Ryan Poles said the plan is to have Justin Fields as their starting QB next season, but they will do their homework on this year’s quarterback class (which any good GM would do).

Ryan Poles took the reins of the Bears’ general manager position to begin the 2022 season.

Recent comments have dictated that the organization is dedicated to Fields as their starting quarterback for 2023.

However, Poles also indicated that he will be keeping a close eye on this year’s crop of rookie quarterbacks.

Should the Bears trade away their first-overall draft pick, they could receive an opportunity to take a quarterback later in the first round.

As evidenced with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, having a quarterback sit behind a veteran has proven to be an effective strategy.

By allowing a new quarterback to sit for a year, they can learn what it’s like to play in the NFL, and understand the toll that a season takes on their body.

What will the Bears decide to do?

There are two months until the draft.

With plenty of time to spare, the Bears should be able to concoct a trade with a willing partner, should they be up for a trade.
