The Raiders Come To A Decision On Josh Jacobs

The Las Vegas Raiders had a disastrous 2022 season, and as the offseason gets going, they’re looking to pick up the pieces and set up a bounce-back 2023 campaign.

They traded for superstar wide receiver Davante Adams last offseason, and despite being expected to contend for a spot in the Super Bowl, they stumbled to a 6-11 finish.

But a bright spot was the play of running back Josh Jacobs, who ran for an NFL-high 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to Pro Bowl and All-Pro first-team nods.

He was set to become a free agent, but the Raiders have officially affixed the franchise tag on him in order to keep him in town for 2023.

This decision will give both sides another year to come to terms on a new contract.

Some Raiders fans aren’t too interested in giving Jacobs a lucrative new contract, due to the fact that running backs aren’t as valuable as they were 10-20 years ago.

In addition, 2022 was Jacobs’ best season by such a wide margin that there is a fear it was more of an aberration than a sign of things to come.

Right now, the Raiders’ most pressing need is the quarterback position after Derek Carr was released.

The hot rumor is that Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers may be interested in coming to Las Vegas and reuniting with Adams.

Acquiring Rodgers, who is still under contract with the Packers, would likely take a considerable amount of draft capital, and there are other teams, such as the New York Jets, that are expected to be in the mix for him.
