NFL World Reacts To Today’s Geno Smith News

After the Seattle Seahawks traded future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Russell Wilson last offseason, many figured they would be mired in a rebuilding process, possibly for a very long time.

Instead, Geno Smith, who hadn’t been a full-time starter in 2014, won the QB1 role and impressed everyone by playing at a level he had previously never gotten to.

He completed an NFL-high 69.8 percent of his passes and collected 4,282 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns while leading Seattle to a surprising playoff berth.

On Monday, it was reported that he and the team were finalizing a multi-year contract to keep him in the fold.

Some fans on Twitter were very happy for him.

Congratulations Geno! One for the good guys. One for the hard workers! Lead the youth!

However, some others seemed to doubt Smith can repeat what he did in 2022 while pointing out he got outplayed by “Mr. Irrelevant” in the playoffs.

The Seahawks lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round, where Smith played pretty well, only to see 49ers QB Brock Purdy throw for 332 yards and three touchdowns against zero interceptions as San Francisco won by 18 points.

Smith had never even come close to the level of production he displayed in 2022, and it is understandable that some think he may come down to Earth in 2023.

He is 32 years of age, so how much longer he can continue to give the Seahawks solid play is another legitimate concern.

But if he continues to play at even close to the level he was at this past season, they should at least have a real shot at another playoff spot, especially with young stars such as Kenneth Walker III emerging.
