March 15 marks an important day in the NFL.

It is the first day of the official league year, which has many different implications.

Leading up to this day, NFL teams need to get under the league’s salary cap number to avoid getting fined.

When this happens, teams need to evaluate their rosters, either cutting players or restructuring their contracts.

Recently, a top Jacksonville Jaguars player was released, making for a surprising move.

Jordan Schultz of The Score broke this news, as the Jaguars have officially released Shaquill Griffin.

Griffin started his career as a member of the Seattle Seahawks but was signed to a three-year deal by the Jaguars in the 2021 offseason.

However, Griffin suffered a back injury in October of 2022 and was placed on the injured reserve as a result.

In the first five games of the 2022 season, Griffin racked up 29 tackles, including three tackles for loss.

Griffin was on-pace to have a career year, but the injury stunted his possibility to do so.

According to Schultz’s initial report, Griffin is at least medically cleared to play in 2023, and will likely have a few suitors in free agency.

The cornerback position is vital in the NFL, especially considering the number of passes that are thrown in a given season.

With this transition to a quarterback-centric league, players like Griffin are crucial to a defense’s success.

Griffin will be eligible to sign with a new team on March 15.

With that deadline just around the corner, what team will take a chance on Griffin?
