In the NFL, if a team doesn’t have a viable starting quarterback, it is difficult for them to find sustained success.
The New York Jets, for example, had one of the NFL’s best defenses in 2022 but fell short due to quarterback woes.
The Atlanta Falcons, despite having two elite receiving options, also fell short in 2022.
Marcus Mariota didn’t turn out to be the player that the organization was expecting, and will now pursue employment elsewhere.
A recent report, however, announced that the Falcons will be signing Taylor Heinicke to a two-year deal, per Ian Rapoport.

After an up-and-down NFL career, it appears that Heinicke will be getting another chance.
Heinicke has been active in the NFL for five seasons, starting a total of 25 games.
He has a 12-12-1 record as a starter, and, at times, provided an electrifying atmosphere on the field.
One of Heinicke’s most notable games was in 2020, a playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Although the Washington Commanders ended up losing that game, Heinicke was able to showcase his skills on a national level.
He threw for 306 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 46 yards, adding a touchdown on the ground as well.
Heinicke’s ability to both rush and pass should prove valuable for the Falcons.
If given the opportunity, he will be able to throw to both Kyle Pitts and Drake London, who have been drafted with early first-round capital in the last two years.
Will Heinicke be able to reclaim his career in Atlanta?
