The Carolina Panthers have made the first big move of the NFL draft season.

In a blockbuster trade involving the Chicago Bears, the Panthers traded up from the ninth overall pick to number one overall.

But, the Panthers had to give up a hefty package for the pick.

The Panthers’ offer included two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and wide receiver D.J. Moore.

Carolina is making this move to draft their future franchise quarterback.

The Panthers have not had a franchise QB since Cam Newton, whom they drafted in 2011.

Carolina is hoping they can have similar success when they pick first this year.

The two QBs they’re reported to be considering with the first pick are Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud.

The two are viewed by many as the consensus top-two quarterbacks in the draft.

Under new head coach Frank Reich, the franchise is looking to make a fresh start in 2023.

Reich, who is an offensive-minded coach, has worked with QBs such as Andrew Luck, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan in the past.

His experience could definitely help mold a rookie into a starting-potential NFL QB.

Playing in a weakened NFC South, the Panthers should be able to push for a playoff spot next year with some solid quarterback play.

After the Panthers take their quarterback first overall, they will need to find some good receivers for him.

Trading Moore gives them no established pass catchers and that can become a problem.

But, give the Panthers credit, they wanted to make a big move and did so.
