The Kansas City Chiefs have set a new standard for success in the National Football League.

So, it’s only natural to see that other teams also want a piece of that and will try to replicate their formula for the future.

And, given that they cannot lure Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Frank Clark, or Travis Kelce away, another team is targeting the next in line.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Washington Commanders continue to show a strong interest in Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, who’d serve under the same position in Maryland.

Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy will be back in Ashburn to continue talks with Commanders coach Ron Rivera today. Sources say they’ll cover staffing and contract this AM. If things go well, Washington could have its OC by the end of the day.

Rivera and Andy Reid have been in touch, too.

Bieniemy will undergo another interview with Commanders HC Ron Rivera, meaning he’s also interested in a change of scenery after so many incredible seasons at Arrowhead Stadium.

Then again, one can only wonder when Bieniemy will get his shot to be the boss and become a head coach instead of a top assistant, as he’s done more than enough to be granted a chance to lead a franchise his own way.

Reid isn’t getting any younger, but the veteran coach has already shut down all rumors about a potential retirement, and it doesn’t seem like he’s ready to walk away from the game any time soon.

Moreover, the Commanders would have to make Bieniemy quite the appealing offer to lure him away from Missouri, including full-time play-calling duties and a significant pay raise.

Sam Howell is no Mahomes and the Commanders’ QB situation is far from ideal, but if someone can fix any offense, that’s most definitely Bieniemy.
