The Chicago Bears were quite tough to watch last season.
Their offense was borderline non-existent, misusing the few weapons they had, and barely throwing the football at all.
That held Justin Fields back during the first couple of months of the season, with some raising questions about his ability to become an NFL-caliber quarterback.
The Bears gave Fields a longer leash as the season progressed, allowing him to wreak havoc out of the backfield with his feet, and there was a stretch where he looked like the best second-year QB in the league.
Now, they have the first-overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and Fields has once again become a subject of debate.
Notably, NFL analyst Chris Simms believes there shouldn’t even be a debate.
He made a case for the Bears to keep Fields instead of trading him and drafting Bryce Young out of Alabama, as some are urging them to do:
“Justin Fields has an elite trait that it’s rare; I would not trade that away,” Simms said on The Dan Patrick Show.
When Justin Field was coming out in the Draft Chris Simms (@CSimmsQB) was perceived as the “Justin Fields hater”. Today he joined us an explained why he thinks the #Bears should prioritize defense with the first overall pick in this year’s draft

Per Simms, Fields is already an all-time great runner and having him run the football just eight to ten times a game would be more than enough to bring chaos to rival defenses.
With that in mind, Simms believes the Bears should prioritize either defense or the offensive line and not even consider moving on from the Ohio State product, regardless of how much another team is willing to give them for Fields, or how much better Young could be.
Drafting isn’t an exact science, so every move is risky.
But the Bears have a good problem on their hands, and they need to entertain all possibilities.
