NFL Insider Reveals The Latest Update On Daniel Jones And Saquon Barkley

The New York Giants enter a key offseason for their two most important players, at least on the offensive side of the field.

Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley could both find a new home by the end of March, although the Giants would have the ultimate say in whether they leave or not.

Barkley and his camp reportedly want something close to $15 million a year, which is more than the Giants are willing to pay him.

Likewise, Daniel Jones and his new agent are reportedly looking at north of $45 million, which is borderline absurd and simply not realistic.

All things considered, there’s a strong chance that the Giants will use the franchise tag on both players to try and work another deal throughout the season.

However, NFL insider Jeff Darlington reports that they’re not going to rush into a decision and will try and work out a long-term contract while they still can.

As the franchise tag window opens, I’m told the Giants want Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley back in 2023 — but would like to reach long-term deals with both. If they apply the tag to either, it won’t be until closer to March 7 deadline to allow for time to negotiate with both.

So, if they wind up franchise-tagging any of their stars, it should happen closer to the March 7 deadline to get more time to sort things out with their camps.

Barkley is one of the best backs in the league, but his injury woes raise serious doubts about his durability, thus significantly hurting his market value.

As for Jones, he’s coming off the best season of his career, but his numbers weren’t all that impressive, and he’s nowhere near that top-tier QB status that would grant him that kind of money, so that’s just not going to happen.
