NFL Insider Gives An Update On Daniel Jones’ Contract Negotiations

The New York Giants exceeded any and all expectations that were placed on them heading into the 2022 NFL season.

Not only were the Giants able to make a surprising run to the postseason, but they were also able to win their first playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.

While they didn’t make a deep run in the playoffs, the fact that the Giants got there in the first place is something that was not expected.

One of the main reasons for their success was the rise of Daniel Jones.

In his fourth season as the Giants starter, Jones achieved career highs in nearly every metric.

This coincided with the Giants’ first winning record since Jones took over as the starter, finishing the season with a 9-6-1 record.

Despite his success, talks between Jones and the Giants haven’t gone well regarding his future contract with the team.

Jones changed agents ahead of a contract extension, with the hope that they would be able to help him get a deal done.

However, recent reporting by Ryan Dunleavy suggests that conversations might be heading closer to a franchise tag.

I’m told #Giants negotiation with Daniel Jones got off to a much bumpier start than expected. Franchise tag very much in play for him https://t.co/b7BpfK1obf

The franchise tag is a way for many teams to push out a long-term deal with one of their players.

This is eerily similar to Lamar Jackson’s current situation with the Baltimore Ravens.

Jackson and the Ravens have discussed a new contract for quite some time, and have yet to achieve a deal.

Jones and the Giants could be headed down a similar path if their conversations don’t improve shortly.
