The San Francisco 49ers didn’t get the best news this week.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Dr. Keith Meister recommended postponing Brock Purdy’s surgery due to inflammation.
Still, Pelissero adds that the 49ers fully expect him to be ready for the 2023 season, as the UCL repair surgery would take place in early March.
#49ers QB Brock Purdy today visited Dr. Keith Meister, who recommended postponing surgery because of ongoing inflammation in Purdy’s elbow, per sources.
They’ll reconvene in early March. All signs continue to point a UCL repair that would have Purdy ready for the 2023 season.

Purdy got off to an amazing start to his career, leading the Niners to an undefeated end to the season before suffering that elbow injury early in the NFC Championship Game.
Mr. Irrelevant was so good that some even speculate that he should be the team’s starting QB going forward, at least to start the season.
Trey Lance has been far from impressive for the Niners, and he’s still quite raw after barely playing in college and at the professional level.
As for Jimmy Garoppolo, he’ll be a free agent and could end up signing with another team, as the Niners had already moved on from him last season before having to backpedal and give him the nod again.
All things considered, Purdy isn’t the most impressive physical specimen by any means.
He’s undersized, and there’s a reason why he didn’t get much attention coming out of college.
However, he did look poised, ready, and in control, and the Niners’ offense was much better and more efficient with him behind center.
The Niners will have a tough decision to make in the next couple of months, but that’s a good problem to have in today’s National Football League.
