With the NFL combine underway, conversations about the draft and player metrics have dominated NFL media over the past several days.
However, a former player recently made headlines, although, not in the way that one might expect.
Joe Montana, former San Francisco 49ers legend, recently had an old jersey sell for an unforeseen amount.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, a Super Bowl game-worn jersey by Montana just sold for $1.212 million.

The previous record was set by Tom Brady, who had a jersey sell for $480,000 after the Tampa Buccaneers’ 2021 Super Bowl victory.
Montana’s jersey isn’t just from any Super Bowl, but rather, two of the most historic games in NFL history.
In Super Bowl Super Bowl XXIII, Montana and the offense found themselves down three points with three minutes left in the game.
Montana went on to lead a 92-yard touchdown drive, which was capped by a John Taylor touchdown reception with 34 seconds left on the play clock.
The rest, of course, is history.
Montana and the 49ers won four Super Bowl titles in his tenure with the team and is often regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
After this jersey was sold, NFL insider Darren Rovell provided additional context to Montana’s jersey, including his salary from the two years that he wore this jersey.
According to Rovell, Montana’s salary was $1.1 million in the year that he won the Super Bowl.
