Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have been negotiating a contract extension for more than a year.
As of today, the two sides have been unable to agree.
If a deal is not put in place before the 2023 NFL season, Jackson could be franchise tagged by the Ravens.
This morning, an NFL analyst gave his thoughts on the situation, advising Jackson.
“Lamar Jackson shouldn’t step foot on a football field until he has a long-term contract done. And if the long-term contract shouldn’t get done, he shouldn’t play for the Baltimore Ravens this year.”

Marcus Spears is an eight-year NFL veteran and is also an alumnus of the Ravens.
Spears believes that Jackson shouldn’t suit up for the Ravens until the team gives him a long-term contract.
Without the long-term contract and guaranteed money attached to it, Jackson would only be tied to the Ravens for the 2023 season.
Although Jackson missed part of the 2022 season due to injury, he is a major reason why the Ravens have been successful since he was drafted.
Jackson won the league MVP award in 2019, and the Ravens have a 45-16 regular season record when he has started for them.
He also holds several NFL records, including the most single-season rushing yards for a quarterback, and the most games with 100 yards by a quarterback.
Jackson has been impactful in the passing game, but, to this point in his career, he has been much more well-known for his rushing abilities.
However, Jackson’s 1-3 record in the playoffs could be a concern for the Ravens, and a potential reason that they haven’t signed him to a contract extension.
Will the Ravens end up placing the franchise tag on Jackson, stalling another year to sign an extension?
