Former Seahawks Teammate Speaks Out On Russell Wilson Critics

The last several months have been rough for Russell Wilson.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos last offseason, and many expected he would be playing for a spot in the Super Bowl this season.

Instead, the Broncos stumbled to a 5-12 finish, and Wilson was a big culprit, as he had arguably the worst season of his 11-year career.

More recently, it was reported that just prior to leaving Seattle, he tried to get longtime head coach Pete Carroll fired.

Ironically, he wanted Carroll to be replaced by Sean Payton, who was recently hired to be the Broncos’ new head coach.

Wilson has gotten lots of criticism, but Cliff Avril, a former defensive end who played with Russell on the Seahawks, had his back on Twitter.

I usually stay out the way and stay in my own lane but it’s tough watching people go in on someone (@DangeRussWilson) every year and he never defends himself so things keep stacking up. It’s unreal! Personally, as a teammate and a man have never had any issues with how he’s moved

Many pundits considered the Broncos an elite team going into the 2022 season, but Wilson set career lows in completion percentage, passing touchdowns and passer rating.

As a result, they were 19th in passing yards, 23rd in passing touchdowns and last in points scored.

In an astounding 11 games this season, Denver failed to reach the 20-point mark, something that is simply embarrassing in the modern NFL.

With Payton by his side, Wilson has no choice but to find a way to regain the old form he consistently showed during 10 stellar seasons with the Seahawks.

Unlike most QBs, he can draw upon the experience of leading them to a world championship in 2013, and he can impart that experience to his current teammates in Denver.
