Derek Carr has been signed to a four-deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Carr’s signing provides a sigh of relief for many Saints fans, who have been begging for a new quarterback after Drew Brees’ departure.

After this signing was announced, Carr posted a brief video in an effort to energize Saints fans.

This video highlighted Tyrann Mathieu, one of the Saints’ defensive leaders.

Mathieu is tied to the Saints for the next two seasons.

With him as a leader on their defense, the Saints and Carr will be set up for success moving forward.

Providing a trade, Carr is now the most senior, most accomplished quarterback in the NFC South.

This is a stark change from the AFC West, where he was paired with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Russell Wilson.

During Carr’s career, when his defense has allowed 20 or fewer points, his overall record was 12-9.

His career record with the Raiders was 63-79, meaning that they were notorious for allowing over 20 points.

Last season, the Raiders allowed 24.6 points per game compared to the Saints’ 20.9 points per game.

If their defense can perform similarly in 2023, Carr should have a great opportunity to find success in this new offense, as he will have more time on the field.

Although the Saints’ offense isn’t necessarily loaded with weapons, Carr will be joined by rookie phenom Chris Olave.

Olave was regarded as one of the best rookie wideouts in 2022.

Paired with Carr, Olave should have the tools to get that much better in 2023, giving his career that much more of a jump-start.
