Daniel Jones and the New York Giants are currently in the midst of contract negotiations.
Jones will be entering his fifth NFL season in 2023.
Elite quarterbacks are typically given a contract extension after their third or fourth season, depending on the team’s situation.
At the moment, it appears that the Giants and Jones are far apart in their negotiations, considering how valuable he believes himself to be.

If recent reporting is true, Jones is reportedly looking for a contract of over $40 million per year.
To put this into perspective, a $45 million per year contract would put Jones tied for the fifth-highest-paid quarterback in the league.
This would put him behind just Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and Deshaun Watson, and tied with Patrick Mahomes.
This would also put Jones ahead of Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, and Dak Prescott, to name a few.
Last season, Jones put together the best statistical season of his career, topping previous career highs in nearly every category.
Despite topping his personal bests, he wasn’t close to the top of the league leaders in any category this season.
He was 15th in passing yards and 22nd in passing touchdowns.
The only category that Jones excelled at was interceptions.
Jones’ five interceptions were among the league leaders, however, he was 14th in passes attempted, so his lack of interceptions makes more sense.
Right now, Jones and the Giants haven’t been able to agree on a contract.
His stats from 2022 don’t necessarily warrant being paid as a top-five quarterback, leaving the two parties at a standstill.
