The Miami Dolphins fired Brian Flores as the first step in a master plan.
They intended to bring Sean Payton out of retirement and get recently-retired Tom Brady instead, but things went south pretty fast.
Flores’ fiasco with the New York Giants and an alleged text from Bill Belichick raised some questions, so Flores eventually sued several teams — Miami included — for racism.
This forced the Dolphins to pull the brakes on their plan, with a tampering investigation later stripping them of NFL Draft capital for trying to get Brady.
Flores was then hired to serve as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ LB coach, a job he was overly qualified for.
Notably, it didn’t take long before he landed a promotion, being hired as the Defensive Coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings.
So, looking back on last year and how things got when he filed that lawsuit, Flores shared an inspirational quote he claims helped him get through the season.
“In life, there are instances where you can either have control or you can have growth, but you can’t have both,” Flores said.
I’m a sucker for good quotes and philosophy’s on life. This one in particular stuck out for me from Brian Flores’ presser.

Wow, those are some powerful words right there.
Truth be told, the Dolphins did him wrong.
He had put together a solid defense, and the Dolphins were slowly becoming a team to reckon with.
Things worked out pretty well for the Dolphins, all things considered, as Mike McDaniel had an impressive first season in charge of the team.
But it’s clear that Flores was too good to be just a position player coach, so props to him for standing up for what he believes in, and staying strong while he landed a much-deserved promotion somewhere else.
