One of the most sought-after prospects in this NFL Draft won’t be on the field during the NFL Scouting Combine.
Georgia star Defensive Lineman Jalen Carter — perhaps the ultimate and most promising defensive prospect in this year’s class — has decided to skip the combine in Indianapolis this week, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Georgia DL Jalen Carter, considered one of the top players in this year’s draft, will not participate in the workout portion of this week’s combine but will do the interviews with teams and the physical. He will meet with other teams, interview with them, and even take physicals, but he’s not going to partake in any drills during the combine.
However, scouts will get to watch him do his thing during Georgia’s Pro Day workout on March 15.
Carter was one of the most impressive and dominant players in the nation during his stint with the Bulldogs.
He played side by side with 2022 first-rounders Devonte Wyatt and Jordan Davis and then took a major leap forward to help his team win back-to-back National Championships.
Despite missing some time with injuries, he still managed to pile up three sacks, two forced fumbles, and 32 tackles (seven for a loss) throughout his All-American campaign, and he’s projected to be one of the first guys taken off the board come April 27.
While most scouts predict Alabama’s Bryce Young to be this year’s first-overall pick, some believe that the Chicago Bears could lean towards taking Carter.
That’s — of course — unless they find enough value in return and decide to trade back.
Carter is one of the unicorns in this class, and he’ll have no trouble finding a new home, so he shouldn’t be worried about his draft stock even if he misses this event.
