Most football enthusiasts and QB prospects from the past generation grew up idolizing San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana.
Once considered the greatest quarterback of all time, guys like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers admitted to molding their games to him.
So, it’s not surprising to see that one of his most famous jerseys was recently auctioned for a rather shocking sum of money.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a jersey worn in two Super Bowl triumphs was sold for a whopping $1.212 million, shattering all previous records for an auctioned football jersey.

Collectible marketplace Goldin held the auction for the record-breaking jersey, which topped the previous record of $480,000 for a 2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady jersey.
Notably, it’s not usual for NFL players to wear a jersey twice, but Joe Montana isn’t an ordinary player.
The legendary quarterback wore it in Super Bowl XIX when he beat the Miami Dolphins, and then four years later in Super Bowl XXIII, in which he came back and beat the Cincinnati Bengals.
How did that happen? Well, Joe’s wife, Jennifer, reportedly gave him the jersey with a note that read, “Maybe you want to wear it again,” as a bit of a good luck charm.
Moreover, this wasn’t the only Joe Cool piece of memorabilia that fetched a nice value in the auction.
They also auctioned the uniform he wore in his last game with the Niners, a signed helmet, the football from his final TD pass in San Francisco, a signed Chiefs uniform from his final NFL game, a high school jersey, a bust, his Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket, and a playbook from Super Bowl XXIII, grossing over $500,000.
