The Philadelphia Eagles have taken multiple major blows as of late.
Not only did they lose Super Bowl LVII, but they also lost Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen to the Indianapolis Colts HC job.
If that wasn’t enough, they also saw Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon leave to serve as the Arizona Cardinals’ new HC, and replacing him won’t be an easy task.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, GM Howie Roseman is currently looking at two potential candidates for that.
First, they have Los Angeles Rams’ DBs coach and pass game coordinator Chris Shula, who worked with Eagles’ HC Nick Sirianni back in 2015-16 in the Los Angeles Chargers’ coaching staff.
They’re also reportedly looking at Michigan’s Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter, who put together one of the most dominant defenses in college football last season and would also come with NFL experience as a former Baltimore Ravens assistant.
As Garafolo pointed out, the Eagles will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of a new DC, and they’ve already reached out to former Wisconsin Defensive Coordinator Jim Leonhard as well.
Among the #Eagles defensive coordinator interviews to date: #Rams DBs coach/pass game coordinator Chris Shula and Michigan DC Jesse Minter, sources say. Shula and Nick Sirianni were together on the #Chargers’ coaching staff 2015-16.

Jesse Minter coordinated one of the top defenses in the country last year. The #Eagles are scanning both the NFL and the college ranks (they talked to former Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard, as @JFowlerESPN reported) and Minter has experience at both levels (former #Ravens assistant).

The Eagles had one of the best defensive units in the league last season, racking up the most sacks in the league.
They have some elite weapons to work with, so we’re talking about one of the most appealing job openings in all of football right now.
Unfortunately, that’s just the curse of making it to the Super Bowl, as you’ll have less time than other teams to fill in those vacancies, so let’s hope they don’t regress in 2023.
