The Buccaneers Appear To Have A QB Plan In Place

When Tom Brady announced his retirement for a second time, the NFL world was sent into a spiral.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were going to be without their Hall of Fame quarterback, and Brady was no longer on the market.

This morning, however, the Buccaneers made a move that indicated the direction they will likely go at the quarterback position for this season.

This goes to back rumors that the team was gonna roll with Trask this year and re-assess everything top to bottom after 2023. https://t.co/mdxn5if83g

It appears that Brady will officially become a free agent on March 15, meaning that the Buccaneers will absorb the full amount of his cap hit.

This likely means that their starting quarterback will be third-year player Kyle Trask, the Buccaneers’ second-round draft pick from 2021.

Trask was a two-year starter at the University of Florida, ending his career with a 17-5 record.

During his time in Florida, he threw for 7,386 total yards, including an impressive 69 touchdowns and just 15 interceptions.

His physical traits present the makings of a solid NFL starter, but he has only appeared in one game for the Buccaneers in his two years in the league.

If the team does end up playing Trask for the 2023 season, they will certainly save a lot of money at quarterback.

By playing Trask, the team is likely admitting that they are in a full rebuild, building up the future of their team for 2024 and beyond.

The good news for Trask is that he will get experience on a large scale, a win-win for both parties.

If he succeeds, the Buccaneers will have lucked out, finding a diamond in the rough.

If he’s unable to find success, the Buccaneers will have a favorable draft pick in 2024 and will look to the future with confidence.
