Las Vegas Raiders fans may not be thrilled with their team’s choice at QB1 for next season.
Raiders fans wanted Tom Brady, but then he retired.
They were promised Aaron Rodgers, with Davante Adams and Darren Waller actively recruiting, and now Rodgers is on the verge of joining the New York Jets.
So, they pretty much moved from Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo, which most people would agree isn’t much of an upgrade.
However, that’s not the case with Shannon Sharpe.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer recently explained why the Raiders actually got better with Jimmy G, mostly because he’s been more consistent than Carr, and because of the fact that he’s already familiar with Josh McDaniels’ system.
“I believe that Jimmy G at his best is better than Derek Carr at his best,” Sharpe said on Undisputed. “So, I do believe that Jimmy G will be better in this situation. He has familiarity with this system; he was in the system for three years, he won a Super Bowl with Josh McDaniels.”

McDaniels and Garoppolo go way back to their days with the New England Patriots.
And while Jimmy G was often backing up Tom Brady, he did excel at Foxboro when Brady got hurt.
In fact, Bill Belichick actually wanted to trade Brady to the San Francisco 49ers because he thought Garoppolo was ready to take over, so chances are that he could thrive in this system.
Of course, plenty has happened ever since, and Garoppolo has suffered multiple injuries and setbacks over the past couple of years.
But having a coach that believes in a quarterback and a quarterback that’s familiar with his system can take both parties a very long way in the National Football League.
So, they might not be better on paper, but they might fare better next season.
