The New Orleans Saints are starting to look like a playoff-caliber team after a dismal 7-10 finish in the 2022 season.

They signed veteran quarterback Derek Carr, a four-time Pro Bowler and they’re hoping former Pro Bowl wide receiver Michael Thomas will stay healthy for a full season for a change.

On Monday, New Orleans cleared out some salary cap space by restructuring the contracts of star running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

Kamara failed to reach the Pro Bowl for the first time in his six pro seasons, even though he recorded 897 rushing yards and 490 receiving yards this past season.

He did see a major drop in another category, as he scored just four total touchdowns two years after he led the NFL with 21 total touchdowns.

Lattimore, who has also been in the league for six years, all of them coming with the Saints, has made the Pro Bowl four times, and he didn’t receive a nod in 2022, as he played in just seven games due to a lacerated kidney.

He put up four passes defended and one interception when he was available this past season.

In 2021, Lattimore had 19 passes defended, which was third in the NFL and earned him his third straight Pro Bowl selection.

Defense does appear to be New Orleans’ relative strength, and it is a category in which it finished second in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns during the 2022 campaign.

However, they did lose starting defensive tackle David Onyemata to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.
