John Lynch Has A Clear Opinion About 49ers’ Draft

The San Francisco 49ers seem to have a stacked team, and it appears all they may have to do in order to head toward Super Bowl championship No. 6 is figure out who should start at quarterback moving forward.

Incumbent starter Brock Purdy is set to undergo surgery on the torn UCL in his throwing elbow, while Trey Lance, who began 2022 as the starter, has recovered from the severe ankle injury that ended his season in Week 2.

But the 49ers could use some upgrades at defensive tackle, as well as on their offensive line and in the secondary.

They will not have any first or second-round picks in April’s NFL draft, but general manager John Lynch doesn’t seem to mind much.

“I do really believe the draft sets up well for the way we’re positioned this year,” Lynch said.

This year’s draft is thought to have plenty of depth, especially at the positions San Francisco needs help at.

In addition, the team has done rather well in recent years with mid and low-draft picks, as they have yielded some of their key contributors.

Purdy, of course, was the last player chosen in last year’s draft, although he’s an extreme example that is unlikely to be repeated any time soon.

The right tackle position needs to be improved in order to give him (or Lance) better protection, and the retirement of Pro Bowler Alex Mack after the 2021 campaign has left the center position in need of an upgrade as well.

Defensive back Deommodore Lenoir got targeted by opposing offenses as the season went on, and the 49ers could stand to replace him with a more productive starter.
