A Former HC Is Joining The Lions Coaching Staff

While the Detroit Lions weren’t exactly a defensive juggernaut last season, they were much better on that side of the field if compared to the previous campaign.

Aidan Hutchinson’s presence made a major impact on Dan Campbell’s team, which also happened to be the youngest in the entire league.

So, given how promising the roster is and how much they’re expected to invest on the defensive side of the ball in the upcoming NFL Draft, Campbell is bringing an experienced guy to his staff.

The Lions reportedly have hired former NFL coach John Fox, according to a report by ESPN’s David Newton.

Former Carolina, Chicago and Denver head coach John Fox appears headed to the Lions as a senior defensive consultant, per league source. Fox had a similar role with the Colts this past season.

Fox is expected to have a prominent role as a senior defensive assistant, taking over for Dom Capers.

It goes without saying that Fox is one of the most experienced figures in the NFL coaching sphere.

He first entered the league back in 1989 as the Pittsburgh Steelers DBs coach, then became the Defensive Coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants before taking over as the Carolina Panthers’ Head Coach in 2002, where he won a couple of division pennants, and made two trips to the Super Bowl with one win.

He later had successful stints with the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears, and boasts a 133-123 record overall, so he’ll definitely bring a lot to the table for an up-and-coming team with a bright future.

The Lions are fresh to a trip to the playoffs, but they’re far from done and look like an organization heading in the right direction.
