Buccaneers Coach Comments On Their Plan At QB

It’s the dawn of a new era for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Going from a Hall of Famer quarterback to any other player isn’t always a smooth transition, so things could get rough for Todd Bowles’s team in the next couple of years.

Their defense regressed, their offensive line was nothing short of terrible, and injuries also hurt their chances.

But even after a slow start to the season, having Tom Brady behind center still gave them a chance to win more often than not.

That’s no longer the case, and the Bucs are in a bit of a tough spot, salary-cap-wise.

With that in mind, Josina Anderson asked coach Bowles about their plans for the QB position, and while Bowles admitted that the team could consider some options, it would have to make sense for them financially.

“We’re not at a point of hurting ourselves financially because of the cap space,” Bowles said. “We’re trying to be smart about it and we’re gonna see what’s out there.”

Bowles also raved about Kyle Trask’s work ethic, going as far as to say that he’s more ready than people think and that he only needs some reps to prove his worth.

“Having Tom [Brady] kind of limited Kyle a little bit,” Bowles added. “He can definitely be the guy; his work ethic is outstanding. He just needs the reps, and everybody needs to see him.”

Trask is currently the only QB under contract for the Bucs, and he’s pretty much a question mark at this point.

They were tied with a move for veteran QBs like Ryan Tannehill, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, and even Baker Mayfield, but they don’t have a lot of money to make the numbers work right now.

There’s always a chance that Trask winds up being way better than expected, but things don’t look very promising at Raymond James Stadium right now.
