49ers Insider Reveals New Brock Purdy Surgery Update

The San Francisco 49ers will have to come up with a plan for their starting quarterback in 2023.

After a season where their quarterbacks were ravaged by injuries, it is anyone’s guess who will start next year.

One player that will be in the discussion is former seventh-round pick, Brock Purdy.

Purdy kept the 49ers’ season alive last year after both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo went down.

He played with confidence and poise, leading the 49ers to the NFC championship game.

But, an untimely injury in that game led to Purdy being unable to throw the ball.

It was an elbow injury, that will now require surgery.

According to Matt Barrows, Purdy is expected to have the elbow surgery on Friday.

Oddly, the 49ers and Purdy have decided to wait this long, especially with a lengthy recovery ahead.

There seems to be a six-month recovery timetable for this surgery, which will lead into September.

It seems like a fair bet that Purdy will not be healthy enough to start the 2023 season.

With Jimmy Garoppolo expected to be playing elsewhere, that leaves Trey Lance as the favorite.

But, even he is coming off a serious ankle injury of his own.

Lance will seemingly be the one healthy quarterback during the offseason, which is why he is set to start next year.

But, if he struggles out of the gate, look for Prudy to try and take that job back when he is healthy.
