The San Francisco 49ers made it a lot further in the playoffs last season than many expected.

They started the season with Trey Lance at quarterback, who went down in Week 2 due to an injury.

Then, the onus was placed upon Jimmy Garoppolo, who was their starter until Week 13, when he suffered a foot injury.

Enter Brock Purdy, one of the most unlikely stories in NFL history.

Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 draft, and, despite all odds, was able to win multiple games for the 49ers in relief of Garoppolo and Lance.

Before the NFL Combine, John Lynch, the 49ers’ general manager, said a few things about the current state of the quarterback position and included his well-wishes to a recent retiree.

About Tom Brady, Lynch noted that he sent Brady a quick text, saying “Congratulations on one of the greatest careers that I have ever seen, in any sport.”

Lynch is often regarded as one of the best general managers across the NFL.

While this move hasn’t been officially made, Lynch and the 49ers have all but confirmed that they will be moving on from Garoppolo in 2023.

Between Lance and Purdy, it appears that the 49ers feel like they are set at the quarterback position.

It’s certainly difficult to argue with him, especially given Purdy’s level of success.

The 49ers were one of the best teams in the NFC in 2022 and will look to repeat that next season.

If Lance is fully healthy to begin the year, who will be their day-one starter?
