The Patriots Are Trading A TE To The Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have recently made a trade for an offensive piece, although it’s probably not who many fans were expecting.

Early on in the 2023 offseason, many pointed to the Falcons as a viable destination for Lamar Jackson.

Although the Falcons haven’t signed Jackson or another quarterback to their roster, they have added another contributor to their offense.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jonnu Smith has been traded to the Falcons for a seventh-round pick.

Smith was signed by the New England Patriots during the 2021 offseason to a four-year, $50 million deal.

In his last two NFL seasons, Smith has amassed 55 receptions for 539 yards, adding ten touchdowns.

Now, Smith will join Kyle Pitts and Drake London in what is turning out to be an exciting Falcons roster.

The one unanswered question, however, is at the quarterback position.

The Falcons have invested serious draft capital in Pitts and London, but have yet to find a franchise quarterback to support these elite weapons.

Now that the team has signed Smith, many NFL fans have wondered what’s next for the Falcons.

Free agency is right around the corner, and the Falcons could be in on a big free agent, given their $53 million in available salary cap space.

The Falcons are second to the Chicago Bears in terms of their salary cap situation.

With any luck, the Falcons will be able to sign a marquee free agent and continue on their search to find greater success in the NFC South.

What’s next for the Falcons?
