The Panthers Have Hired A New Front Office Executive

The Carolina Panthers have been going through a rebuilding process for what has seemed like forever.

In recent months, they fired head coach Matt Rhule, hired former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich to replace him, and traded star running back Christian McCaffrey.

Now, they’re reportedly hiring Adrian Wilson to be their vice president of player personnel.

Wilson has spent the last several seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, during which time the franchise has struggled, making the playoffs just once since 2015.

Before that, he had a productive 12-year career as a safety for the Cardinals, and during that time he was named to the Pro Bowl five times and the All-Pro first-team once.

As a member of the Cardinals, Wilson played in Super Bowl XLIII, where they suffered a heartbreaking last-minute defeat to Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although the consensus seems to be that the Panthers lack enough talent to make the playoffs in 2023, they do have a few pieces to build upon.

Running back D’Onta Foreman and wide receiver D.J. Moore had solid seasons in 2022, while defensive end Brian Burns made the Pro Bowl for the second straight year.

Carolina badly needs a good quarterback, as they went through four starters this season, none of whom worked out well.

But the NFC South is frightfully weak, and it could be even weaker in 2023 thanks to the retirement of Tom Brady.

That could open up an opportunity for the Panthers if they manage to snag a reliable signal-caller this offseason.

They haven’t made the playoffs since 2017 and they haven’t won a postseason game since 2015, when they lost to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
