The NY Jets Have Hired A New WR Coach

The New York Jets, who went from a promising 7-4 start to a dismal 7-10 finish, have one of the NFL’s worst offenses, and their passing game was particularly problematic.

They have reportedly hired Zach Azzanni, who had been with the Denver Broncos for the last five seasons, to be their new wide receivers head coach.

In New York, Azzanni will be reunited with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was the head coach in Denver for much of this past season.

The Broncos had high hopes after trading for future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, but they finished last in points scored and stumbled to a 5-12 record.

It is hard to imagine Azzanni revitalizing a Jets passing offense that ranked 21st in touchdowns and 25th in yards, but he will have an interesting weapon in wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

As a rookie this year, Wilson had 1,103 yards and four touchdowns, which was good enough for him to earn the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Of course, the Jets also have the Defensive Rookie of the Year in cornerback Sauce Gardner, who was also voted to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro first-team and helped them finish third in passing yards allowed and first in passing touchdowns given up.

But the big question is who will be their quarterback next season.

It looks like New York is willing to spend big in order to have a quality player under center, and they’re reportedly interested in Derek Carr, who spent the last nine years with the Las Vegas Raiders.

In addition, there are whispers that the team may have some desire to go after Green Bay Packers leader Aaron Rodgers, although he would cost New York plenty of draft capital.
