The Lions Have Submitted A New Rule Change Proposal To The NFL

The Detroit Lions have recently submitted a proposal that San Francisco 49ers fans would love.

According to NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Lions recently proposed to have an emergency QB in every game.

This way, teams could activate a third quarterback from the practice squad or inactives in case their two quarterbacks are out with injuries.

The Lions submitted a bylaw proposal that will allow for an emergency QB. Each team could designate a third QB from inactives or practice squad who can be activated during the game if the 2 active QBs were ruled out for the rest of the game.

That could’ve come in quite handily for the Niners, a team that struggled with injured quarterbacks more often than not last season.

Notably, this isn’t the only interesting proposal submitted by the Lions today.

According to Michael David Smith of NBC Sports’ ProFootballTalk, the Lions are proposing a third coach challenge.

This new rule would allow coaches to make a third challenge if either of the first two challenges were successful.

As of now, coaches can only challenge calls once per half and would only be allowed to throw a challenge flag a third time if both of his previous two challenges were successful.

It’s worth noting that this would still limit coach challenges to a maximum of three per team per game, even if all three of those challenges were successful.

Notably, both of these rules would require at least 24 of 32 teams to approve to become official, so we’ll have to wait and see how things unfold.

The third QB would benefit every single team in the league, so there’s no reason to believe someone would oppose it.

As for the challenge, the NFL might not like to have their referees exposed so often, so maybe they’ll use their leverage to prevent this rule from passing.
