Texans GM Comments On Brandin Cooks’ Trade Request

The 2022 NFL season was a bit of a disaster for the Houston Texans.

Nearly everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong, with Davis Mills regressing and proving that he wasn’t a starting-caliber QB after a promising season and Lovie Smith costing them the first-overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

More than that, not even signing Brandin Cooks to a contract extension was enough to appease his wrath, as the talented wideout requested to be traded mid-season and then expressed his discontent for staying pat past the deadline.

Some thought the Texans could actually release Cooks and predicted he would threaten to sit out if he wasn’t traded, but that wasn’t the case.

Now, we’re officially in the offseason, and multiple teams will be looking to add more firepower to their passing game.

With that in mind, some insiders asked Texans GM Nick Caserio about Cooks’ situation and whether the team intends to move him, and his response pretty much said it all:

“We’re kind of in the team-building process here, so every player— every individual situation, we’ll look at it, and ultimately we’ll do what we feel it’s best for the team,” Caserio said during the NFL Combine meetings at Indianapolis.

It all points to the Texans looking forward to moving their best wide receiver, which doesn’t strike as a surprise at all.

As good as he is, having a disgruntled player isn’t good for the locker room and team morale, and it’s not like they’re going to compete any time soon.

More than that Cooks knows he’s entering the backend of his prime and wants to make sure to play for a contending team while he still can.

So, expect his name to be tangled up in multiple rumors as we approach NFL Draft night.
