Ryan Leaf Says 1 NFL Draft Prospect Reminds Him Of Josh Allen

As it usually happens, NFL scouts are on the fence about an intriguing quarterback prospect right now.

Kentucky’s Will Levis has been a polarizing player for quite a while now, with some stating that he’s nowhere near NFL-ready and others believing he has a superstar upside.

If you were to ask former NFL player Ryan Leaf, the truth might as well be somewhere in-between:

“My comp for him is Josh Allen— and not the Josh Allen you get to watch on Sundays right now, but the Josh Allen that was coming out of Wyoming,” Leaf said on Good Morning Football. “Not a very good final year, played against some real competition, didn’t have the greatest of games; elite arm strength, size, mobility.”

Leaf recently stated that he thinks Levis has shades of Josh Allen, but not the Allen that has led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs every year, but the one who entered the league out of Wyoming.

While some might think this is a bit of a stretch, that’s actually on point.

Allen was far from impressive from a player standpoint when he first entered the league; he was nothing more than raw physical potential and a privileged athlete.

But some years working with Brian Daboll and being on a team that was patient enough with him to let him play through his mistakes were enough for Allen to blossom into one of the league’s marquee players.

Levis might get worse before he gets any better, but he’s got the build to be a dominant gunslinger once the game starts to slow down for him, especially if he gets to work in a system that’s built around his strengths.

He will need some continuity, and there will be plenty of growing pains along the way.

But his athleticism and upside are just too good not to at least consider taking a chance on him.
