The New England Patriots will be heading into the 2023 season without a quarterback controversy.

Despite a rough year from Mac Jones, New England has committed to him as being their guy.

Recently retired Patriot Devin McCourty said he thinks Jones is going to skyrocket.

McCourty mentioned how Jones was drafted for a reason.

He was the Patriots’ first-round pick in 2021 and still has time to develop.

After finishing second in offensive rookie of the year and making the Pro Bowl in 2021, Jones struggled last season.

He only played in 14 games but was not very effective in those games.

Jones threw for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the Patriots to a 6-8 record.

Some of his struggles could have been that the Patriots did not have a real offensive coordinator.

Matt Patricia called plays and that was something he had never done before.

But, Patricia is no longer the offensive coordinator in New England as they turned that job over to Bill O’Brien.

The Patriots seem to have a good defense every year thanks to Bill Belichick.

But, if they hope to get back to the playoffs next year they need their offense to step up.

It would help Jones if the Patriots could acquire some quality pass-catchers.

As of now, their top receiving options are DeVante Parker and Hunter Henry.

Neither of these players are considered a top-tier option.

If they can add some better pieces around Jones, he can return to a Pro Bowl level in 2023.
