The Cincinnati Bengals went from a bottom-feeding team to an actual appealing destination for some of the best free agents in the National Football League.

That seems to be the case with former Minnesota Vikings star Patrick Peterson, who’s coming off an outstanding season and could gauge plenty of league-wide interest in free agency.

In a recent conversation with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Peterson pretty much put himself out there and let the Bengals know that he would be interested in playing for them.

Peterson praised their QB situation with Joe Burrow and raved about their offense.

He added that he knows they could use the depth at the CB position, stating that Eli Apple is slated to hit free agency.

Peterson also added that he’s looking forward to the kind of playoff competition the Bengals are set to face year in and year out, namely Patrick Mahomes:

“I really like what the Bengals have,” Peterson said. “They have a quarterback. They have a great staff on the offensive side of the ball. I know Eli Apple is gonna be a free agent coming up. I feel I can come in there and help those guys you know because, obviously, you’re going to be going up against other high-quality quarterbacks in the playoffs almost each and every year against Patty Mahomes. So you’re going to need some quality cover guys that can kind of keep those guys in check.”

Notably, according to PFF, Peterson is coming off the second-best season of his 12-year career, posting an 80.6 grade.

He’d be a massive improvement over controversial and inconsistent CB Eli Apple, who’s not exactly a fan favorite or a beloved figure around the league, not to mention he could serve as the ultimate mentor for a young team looking to establish itself as one of the teams to beat in the AFC.

Nonetheless, for this to happen, chances are that the star CB will have to take a pay cut, as he’s projected to fetch around $7 million per year in his next deal.
