The Chicago Bears selected Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Fields’ production took a step forward in 2022, a marked improvement from his rookie season.

In 15 games, Fields threw for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns, adding in 1,143 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

After their 3-14 record in 2022, the Bears will be the first team to select in this year’s draft.

Despite Fields’ improvement, some have speculated that the Bears could look to draft a quarterback with their first overall selection.

However, one of Fields’ old Ohio State teammates, C.J. Stroud, put these rumors to bed.

NFL Insider Ari Meirov shared Stroud’s statements on Fields, including: “He can sling it, I don’t want to go there. That’s Justin’s team.”

Ohio State QB CJ Stroud was asked about Justin Fields and the meeting he had with the #Bears: “He ain’t no damn running back. He’s a quarterback. He can sling it. … I don’t want to go there. That’s Justin’s team.”

Stroud is one of the top-rated prospects ahead of this year’s draft.

In his eyes, Fields should remain as the Bears’ quarterback, given his abilities as a rusher and a passer.

Fields’ combined rushing and passing yards from 2022 were the 16th-most in the league last season.

The Bears have been criticized for having a depleted wide receiving corps, which is one of the reasons that Fields’ passing numbers aren’t as high as some of his second-year counterparts.

If the Bears stick with him as their quarterback, they will need to make it a priority to add weapons in the offseason, both in the draft and in free agency.

With nearly $100 million in available salary cap space, the Bears should have plenty of capital to add at least one marquee weapon for Fields.
