The Green Bay Packers are one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports, and it’s no wonder why, as they have won 13 championships, four of them coming in the Super Bowl era.

They have had a tremendous following throughout not only Wisconsin but the entire upper Midwest as well, as they have one of the most devoted fan bases that is made up of men and women who call themselves “Cheeseheads.”

One of those fans happens to be Northwestern University offensive tackle Peter Skoronski, who is considered arguably the best offensive lineman available in next month’s NFL draft.

He said recently that he would love to become a member of the Packers.

Skoronski on potentially going to the Packers: “I grew up a Packers fan. that would be an enormous deal to me and my family and kind of a dream come true, in a sense. Happy to go anywhere else, but there is this place in my heart for the Packers for sure.”

Skoronski grew up in Park Ridge, Ill, which is a suburb of Illinois, yet he grew up loving the Packers.

One reason why is his grandfather, Bob Skoronski, who played for the team in the late 1950s and 1960s when it boasted Hall of Famer quarterback Bart Starr and legendary head coach Vince Lombardi.

The elder Skoronski, who also played offensive tackle, won five championships, two of which came in the first two Super Bowls, with Green Bay.

This season’s iteration of the Packers bore no resemblance to those teams, nor did they stack up with any of the squads led by a prime Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers.

With star wide receiver Davante Adams gone, Green Bay was anemic on offense and narrowly missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record.

Their first draft pick this year will be the 15th selection, and depending on what the teams that are positioned ahead of them do and the wishes of head coach Matt LaFleur, perhaps it will be high enough to make the younger Skoronski’s dream come true.
