With most of the league talking about Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, there’s another veteran QB that could be changing places sooner rather than later.

Jimmy Garoppolo is no longer a part of the San Francisco 49ers’ plans, which is far from a surprise right now.

The Niners were ready to move on from Jimmy G last offseason, but he wound up having a final chance to showcase his talents in Santa Clara.

Now, after six seasons with the organization, he’s expected to gauge some interest from three QB-needy franchises.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers could all make a run at Jimmy G as soon as free agency starts on March 15.

The Raiders were also reportedly interested in making a run at Rodgers, but with him seemingly close to becoming a New York Jet, they’ll need to look somewhere else for Derek Carr’s replacement.

The Texans thought Davis Mills could be their guy, but it became painfully evident that he wasn’t a starting-caliber QB last season.

As for the Panthers, they’re reportedly still interested in re-signing Sam Darnold, but Garoppolo would be a slight upgrade over him.

Garoppolo comes with plenty of experience, but his history of underperforming and injuries have held what was once a promising career back.

He’d still be a better choice for several quarterback-needy teams in 2023, but they should consider him nothing more than a stopgap and a placeholder until they find the right guy to turn their franchise around.
