The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the many teams across the NFL to make a coordinator change in the offseason.

Renaldo Hill was the Chargers’ defensive coordinator for two seasons before moving on to take the same job in Miami.

Now, this has left a hole in the organization, leaving the Chargers to search for a new DC.

This morning, an NFL insider provided the latest on this situation.

For their vacant defensive coordinator position, the #Chargers have interviewed #Patriots DL coach DeMarcus Covington and University of Houston defensive coordinator Doug Belk, sources say. Covington also interviewed with the #AZCardinals.

As this report indicates, the Chargers have conducted two interviews for their open position.

Doug Belk was a surprising choice, especially since he is currently a coach at the collegiate level.

Despite being just 35 years old, Belk has over ten years of coaching experience, albeit, not in the NFL.

However, Belk has seen success on the collegiate teams that he has been a part of, especially at his most recent destination, the University of Houston.

DeMarcus Covington has been a popular choice for this position across the league and was most recently interviewed by the Arizona Cardinals.

Covington is even younger than Belk.

At 33 years old, Covington was a part of the collegiate coaching system for a few seasons before being recruited by the New England Patriots.

Covington has spent the last six seasons with the Patriots, and he has experienced a Super Bowl victory in his time there.

While Covington hasn’t had direct experience as a DC, his time with the Patriots could be invaluable to the Chargers organization.

Which candidate will the Chargers end up going with as their new DC?
