Geno Smith’s production for the Seattle Seahawks was one of the most surprising stories of the 2022 NFL Season.

Smith was a career backup but was able to shine when given the chance as the Seahawks starting quarterback.

Not only did Smith’s production earn him a three-year contract with the Seahawks, but he was able to secure truly life-changing money in the process.

Field Yates of ESPN outlined Smith’s career earnings, citing that his $35 million per year is nearly triple his career earnings thus far.

Geno Smith’s career earnings through 10 seasons: $17.55M

Geno Smith’s *annual* value on his new contract: $35M

What a journey. So incredibly well-deserved.

2023 will mark Smith’s 11th NFL season.

Before getting the Seahawks’ starting gig in 2022, Smith had started just 34 career games.

He did have an opportunity to start for the New York Jets for the majority of the 2013 and 2014 seasons, but since the team was largely unsuccessful, the organization moved on.

In 2022, Smith proved his value to the Seahawks, earning himself the Comeback Player of the Year award.

He had the eighth-most passing yards in the league in 2022 and had the third-most touchdown passes of any quarterback.

Smith’s value was recognized across the league, and his contract with the Seahawks now reflects that as well.

The Seahawks were able to make it to the playoffs in 2022, largely due to the weak nature of the NFC.

2023 should prove to be a lot different, especially considering how many quarterbacks are likely to change teams.

Will Smith and the Seahawks be able to put together another playoff-worthy season?

The team has expressed their belief in him, and Smith will be given another opportunity to prove his abilities.
