Although it can sometimes be a detriment to players, for the most part, the NFL is a league that considers what you have done for a franchise lately.
Even though a player was dominant the prior season, if he takes a small step back, it can be enough for a team to examine that player’s role in the organization moving forward.
The Detroit Lions are currently taking an extensive look at their roster, particularly at the quarterback position.
At the combine, Lions general manager Brad Holmes was asked about the possibility of drafting a quarterback.
He responded, “We’re happy with Jared, he’s our starter, but we need to add some pieces.”
Lions general manager Brad Holmes answered questions on @GMFB about drafting a quarterback.
“We’ve had these open, transparent conversations. We’re happy with Jared (Goff), he’s our starter, but we need to add some pieces,” Holmes told @PSchrags.

During the 2022 regular season, Goff had the sixth-most passing yards in the league.
This was more than the likes of Josh Allen, Geno Smith, and Trevor Lawrence.
Goff also threw for 29 touchdowns last year, which was tied for fifth-best in the league.
He had one of the best statistical seasons of his career, which was largely due to Dan Campbell’s coaching style.
However, because Goff was brought up in conversation, especially when talking about the NFL Draft, it’s certainly something worth looking into.
Even though Holmes has publicly praised Goff, actions speak louder than words.
If the Lions do end up drafting a quarterback in April, that will demonstrate that the Lions aren’t necessarily confident in Goff moving forward.
There are several blue-chip quarterback prospects in this incoming draft class.
With two first-round picks, will the Lions be forced to take one of these impressive quarterback options?
